Bihar Imposes Lockdown Till May 15 Due To Surge In Covid-19 Cases

Patna: Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Bihar, a lockdown has been imposed in the state till May 15, informed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today.

“After holding discussions with various minister and officials yesterday, we decided to implement the lockdown in Bihar till May 15, 2021. Further guidelines in this regard will be issued by the state crisis management today,” CM Nitish Kumar tweeted.

All state government offices will remain closed during the lockdown, excluding essential services such as district administration, civil defence etc., and essential shops, said Bihar Chief Secretary.

Earlier, the state had imposed a night curfew till March 15.

According to reports, Bihar  recorded a total of 11,407 fresh Covid cases that broke the five lakh-mark of infections on Monday whereas 82 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 2821. The capital city Patna is the worst-hit in the state.

The Chief Minister had also announced free Covid-19 vaccination for all adults.

The state is yet to start the vaccination for people above 18 years due to non-availability of the stock.
