Bank holidays in May 2022: Banks to remain shut on these days this month

Banks across all private and public sectors in India will remain closed for up to 11 days in the month of May 2022. These days also include second and fourth Saturdays, and Sundays. According to the calendar list released by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain shut for a total of four days, apart from weekends in this month. However, the holiday list may vary from state to state.

The RBI divides the holidays into the national and regional category. These are state-wise celebrations, religious holidays and festival celebrations. All banks across India are closed on holidays listed in the national category while on holidays in the regional section, branches in some states remain closed.

Reserve Bank of India places its Holidays under three categories–Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

Bank holidays in May 2022: Full list 

1st May 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

2nd May 2022: Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra) (Monday) (Banks will remain shut in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi)

3rd May 2022: Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti/Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra)/Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya (Tuesday) All over India except Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram

8th May 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

9th May 2022: Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore (Monday)- Banks across Kolkata will remain shut on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday.

14th May 2022: Second Saturday

15th May 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

19th May 2022: Buddha Purnima (Thursday) (Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Belapur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar, will remain closed.)

22nd May 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

28th May 2022: Fourth Saturday

29th May 2022: Weekly off (Sunday)

If you wanted to do any bank related work on these dates, then check if the local branch near you is closed or not as to avoid facing any hassle. If it is closed, you can always do bank transaction through online banking during the holidays as they will continue to work during the holidays.
