Chamoli: In a tragic incident an avalanche in Uttarakhand has been experienced in which as many as 57 workers have been trapped, said reports on Friday. It is further worth mentioning that ten people have been rescued but are in critical condition.
According to reports, the Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharne told ANI, “A massive avalanche has occurred near the Border Roads Organization camp in the border area of Mana in which 57 workers engaged in road construction have been trapped.
The Police Headquarters spokesperson further added, “Out of these workers, 10 workers have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana in critical condition.”
Meanwhile, BRO (Border Roads Organization) Executive Engineer CR Meena said that 57 workers were present at the spot. He Further added that three to four ambulances have also been sent, but due to heavy snowfall, the rescue team is facing difficulties in reaching there.
Further detailed reports awaited in this regard. The rescue operations are underway.
Chamoli DM Sandeep Tiwari told ANI, “…Information about an avalanche has been received. Around 57 labourers of BRO (Border Roads Organization), who undertake snow-clearing operations, had camped there. Our teams have been mobilized – ITBP, SDRF and Administration.
He further added, “There is active rainfall and snowfall activities there. So, we are unable to deploy heli-services. Movement is difficult. Since satellite phones and other such equipment are not available there, we have not been able to have a clear communication with them. But we have not received any official information of any casualty…We are receiving full support from higher authorities. We hope that our team will reach there and rescue them safely…”
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami shared an X post in Hindi that roughly translates into, “Sad news was received about many workers being buried under avalanche during the construction work being carried out by BRO near Mana village in Chamoli district. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by ITBP, BRO and other rescue teams. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the labourers.”
