Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s condition critical: AIIMS

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s health condition has worsened, said All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here in a press release on last evening.

The 93-year old saffron leader has been on life support system for the last couple of days, it added.

Vajpayee is under the supervision of Director of AIIMS Dr Randeep Guleria. A team of doctors from the nephrology, gastroenterology, pulmonology and cardiology departments is keeping round-the-clock check on the ailing leader

Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night visited the AIIMS to enquire about the health of Mr Vajpayee. Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal went to the hospital to know about the condition of the ailing leader.

Later in the night, several leaders and ministers including Suresh Prabhu, Jitendra Singh, Harsh Vardhan and Shahnawaz Hussain visited the hospital.

Vajpayee,one of the tallest leaders of BJP, was admitted to the AIIMS in June this year for treatment.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu visited the AIIMS this morning to enquire about the health condition of Vajpayee. Congress president Rahul Gandhi will also visit AIIMS today, sources said.
