Assam flood death toll rises to 41, over 6 lakh people affected
A fresh toll of ten more people, including four children, has taken the total death toll to 41 in 24 hours.
Assam: Flood situation in Assam remained critical today with 10 more persons dead in the last 24 hours and the toll mounting to 41 this monsoon.
Four of the 10 victims this morning are children, ASDMA official said as the state continued to reel under the impact of heavy monsoon showers.
More than 6.5 lakh people have been affected in 11 districts, while thousands were forced to leave their homes in search of safety.
Hundreds of villages were inundated, agricultural fields destroyed, and road communication snapped in many areas.
NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue and relief operations along with the army and district administrations.
Relief camps have been opened and essential items and medical assistance are being provided.
Authorities have cautioned residents in low-lying areas to be alert to further possible rainfall in the northeast region and follow all the evacuation orders if issued. River water levels are being monitored.
