Army Chief Gen MM Naravane takes charge as chairman of chiefs of staff committee

New-Delhi: The government on Wednesday has appointed General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff, as the Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee (Chairman, CoSC) that comprises the three service Chiefs (Army, Navy, and Air Force).

The post which fell vacant after the sudden demise of the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash on December 8.

“General Naravane has taken over the role of the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, which includes the Chiefs of Navy and Air Force Staff too.”, sources confirmed.  General Naravane is the senior-most chief of the Staff.

IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar had taken over their respective positions on September 30 and November 30.

Yesterday, Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the crash, succumbed to injuries at a military hospital in Bengaluru.
