Visakhapatnam: Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former Araku MLA Siveri Soma were shot dead by Maoists in Dumbriguda Mandal of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders were killed by the red rebels while they were going to attend a public meeting.
The incident occurred near Thutangi village, about 125 km from coastal city of Visakhapatnam. Both of them died on the spot.
Andhra Pradesh police said that both of them had received threats from Maoists in the past.
Rao was elected from Araku, a constituency reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, on YSR Congress Party ticket in the 2014 elections, defeating Soma of the TDP. Later, he switched loyalties to TDP in 2016.
