Anti-terrorism Operation continues for 3rd day, 5 jawans martyred

The Handwara operation has been going on for more than 60 hours as of Sunday

Srinagar: Anti-terrorism operation by the Indian Army and CRPF personnel continued for a third day on Sunday in Handwara of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Two martyred jawans belonged to CRPF, while the other two were from J&K police, reported ANI. On Sunday morning, one more CRPF personnel succumbed to injuries, which were sustained yesterday. Two terrorists were gunned down in this operation.

On Friday, the Indian Army had come to know two terrorists were hiding in the village. But soon terrorists again started firing as the security forces advanced towards the house where they were hiding.

After the encounter began on Friday, there was a lull in firing several times during the day, but terrorists opened fire as soon as security forces advanced towards a house where they were hiding.

One civilian was also killed in the firing and several others were injured following the anti-terrorism operation. The youth was rushed to nearby hospital, but was declared ‘brought dead’.

It is not yet officially known the number of terrorists hiding in the Handwara’s residential areas, but the anti-terrorist operations by the Army are nowhere close to an end.
