Amitabh Kant gets two-year extension as Niti Aayog CEO

New Delhi: Amitabh Kant on Wednesday given a two-year extension as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Niti Aayog, an official order said.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of Kant’s tenure for a further period of two years beyond June 30, 2019, i.e. up to June 30, 2021, on the same terms and conditions, the Personnel Ministry said.

The development comes after PM Narendra Modi approved the reconstitution of the policy think tank of the government, NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India).

Kant, a 1980 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, was appointed as the CEO of the Niti Aayog on February 2017. He played a crucial role in several developmental initiatives by the Modi Government (2014-19) such as ‘Make in India’, ‘Startup India’ etc.
