Amit Shah takes charge as Union Home Minister

New Delhi: Two days after taking oath as a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government, BJP President Amit Shah took charge as Union Home Minister here on Saturday.

54-year-old Shah took over the Union Home Ministry from Rajnath Singh, who has been given charge of the Ministry of Defence in the new government.

Minister was greeted by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Director, Intelligence Bureau Shri Rajiv Jain at the North Block.

Shah was also felicitated by new Ministers of State (Home), G. Kishan Reddy and Nityanand Rai who also took charge of office this morning.

“Took over as the Home Minister of India today. I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for believing in me. The security of the country and the welfare of the countrymen is the top priority of the Modi government, I will make every effort to fulfil it,” Shah tweeted.

The BJP veteran was recently elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Gandhinagar Parliamentary constituency. He has been a Rajya Sabha member, Minister in Gujarat Government and MLA in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

Among others, cross-border infiltrations, continuous unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, routine Maoist attacks various states etc. are key challenges before Home Minister Shah.
