Amarnath, Vaishno Devi Yatras temporarily suspended due to adverse weather
Authorities suspend travel of pilgrims from July 19, after torrential rain predicted in Jammu and Kashmir in coming days.
New Delhi: The Amarnath Yatra and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra have been suspended from Friday (July 19) due to heavy rains predicted in Jammu and Kashmir.
A temporary suspension has been put in place to ensure the safety of over thousands of pilgrims travelling to the holy shrines of Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammu.
As per the IMD, the Valley will receive moderate to widespread rains from July 19 to July 23 and landslides, flash floods and landslides were a concern.
Pilgrims are advised not to travel toward the base camp until we issue new instructions.
The decision to suspend both the yatras, however, will remain in effect until weather and path conditions are examined and a clearance is given.
No convoy of yatris would be allowed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas to either of the two sites.
Movement from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps have also been stopped as a precautionary measure too.
