Alok Verma Removed As CBI Chief

New Delhi: Alok Verma has been removed as CBI Chief on Thursday.

According to reports, Verma was removed after the Selection Panel met at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home this evening.

The Committee removed Alok Verma from the top post of CBI 48 hours after Supreme Court, scrapping the government’s October order sending Verma on compulsory leave and replacing him with an interim CBI director, reinstated him as the boss of the investigating agency.

However, the apex court had ruled that Verma would not take any policy decision till a committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the leader of the largest opposition party, took a call on his status.

After joining his duty, Verma had cancelled the transfers of 10 officers and transferred five others over the last 24 hours.

The Government of India, meanwhile, said that CBI Additional Director, M. Nageshwar Rao will look after the duties of the Director, CBI till the appointment of a new Director, or until further orders.

The ACC has subsequently posted Alok Verma as DG, Fire Services, Civil Defence, and Home Guards.
