Alok Verma is an honest officer & it’s good that he resigned: Arup Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik on Friday hailed Alok Verma’s decision to resign from services, a day after he was removed as CBI Director and posted as Director General (DG) of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards.

Speaking about Verma’s resignation, Patnaik said “He (Alok Verma) is my batch-mate and a close friend. He is an honest officer. All allegations against him are baseless. Some people tried to remove him by hook or crook as he did not dance to their tunes. It is good that he resigned from services.”

“I was in the CBI for five years and my name was also recommended in 2014 for the post of the Director. However, an influential person rejected my candidature saying that the work we need from the CBI will not be done if Arup Patnaik is appointed as its Director. They appoint the people who will work for them and according to them,” added Patnaik.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Verma was removed from the post of
Director of the top investigating agency of the country yesterday by the Selection Committee comprising the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition and Justice A K Sikri, nominee of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi. He was given the charge of Director General (DG) of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards. However, he resigned from his services today.
