Akhilesh-Mayawati charge at Rahul Gandhi-led Congress

Lucknow: The new Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance led Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati charged AICC President Rahul Gandhi of unnecessarily creating “confusion” among Uttar Pradesh voters and that they are perfectly capable of beating BJP on their own. Both the leaders expressed their views on Monday via tweets.

The Congress party on Sunday had announced to leave seven Lok Sabha seats for Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Uttar Pradesh, where 80 seats are at stake.

BSP supremo Mayawati said via tweet, “Congress is free to contest from all 80 seats. They are free to fight alone in upcoming general elections. Our alliance is capable of defeating BJP here (in Uttar Pradesh). Congress should not create confusion (by leaving 8 seats) for a possible alliance.”

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav seemed to agree with Mayawati when he retweeted her previously mentioned tweet and said, “The SP, BSP and RLD alliance is capable of defeating BJP in UP. Congress party must not create any confusion.”

Uttar Pradesh will go to polls during all seven phases of the election to be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha poll, NDA had won 73 seats in the state. SP had got just five seats, while BSP drew a blank.
