Air India-New-York flight right engine damaged at Delhi airport
An Air India Airbus A350 aircraft's engine was damaged after sucking in a baggage container at Delhi Airport
New-Delhi: An Air India Airbus A350 aircraft’s engine was damaged after sucking in a baggage container at Delhi Airport.
The incident took place when the Airbus A350 was taxiing in dense fog at the airport, where its right engine was damaged by a foreign object, the airline said.
Air India has confirmed that the damage was caused as the plane was moving on the ground, not while in flight.
Flight AI101, which was operating between Delhi and New York, had returned to the airport after the Iranian airspace closure impacted its route.
“Air India confirms that Flight AI101, operating from Delhi to New York (JFK), was forced to return to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to the unexpected closure of Iranian airspace, which impacted its planned route. Upon landing in Delhi, the aircraft encountered a foreign object while taxiing in dense fog, resulting in damage to the right engine,” said an Air India spokesperson.
Following the engine damage incident, Air India has cautioned passengers about potential disruptions to its A350 services.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into the incident.
