Jaipur: An Indian Air Force MiG-27 fighter jet crashed in a field near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The jet burst into flames and was completely destroyed in the crash.
The pilot of the MiG-27, however, was able to safely eject from the jet.
The MiG-27 crashed during a routine mission, the Indian Air Force said in a statement. “The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident,” the Air Force stated.
The aircraft had taken off from the Indian Air Force’s Jodhpur airbase.
The MiG-27 is a Soviet era ground-attack aircraft that India bought in the early 1980s.
