As many as seven aborted babies were spotted drifting in a drain in Mudalagi village of Belagavi district in Karnataka.
The fetuses stashed in bottles were discovered floating in a sewer under a bridge on Friday.
Police officials believe it to be a homicide. The incident was brought to light after a few Belagavi locals noticed the boxes floating in a drain near the Mudaligi bus stop. When the cops arrived they conducted an additional investigation.
The police have filed an FIR and are conducting a thorough investigation. According to the sources, all fetuses were believed to be five months old and housed at the Belagavi Government Hospital’s mortuary.
“In a canister, seven fetuses were discovered. Detection of fetal sex and murder were identified in five-month-old embryos. Following notification of the district authorities, a team of officials will be assembled to launch an investigation,” said Dr. Mahesh Koni, the district’s health and family welfare officer.
The discovered embryos were kept in a hospital and then brought to the District Functional Science Center for analysis, the speaker continued.
