6 Dead, 10 Injured As Fire Cracker Shop Burns Down In Tamil Nadu

Chennai: As many as six people have died in a fire at a fire cracker shop in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district on Tuesday night.

The accident took place in Sankarapuram area Kallakurichi district of TN.

Several people were injured in the fire which quickly spread due to the combustible materials stocked in the building where the shop was located.

The reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

A video clip of the fire that emerged on social media shows a massive explosion turning the night sky into bright orange.

Reportedly almost ten people have been rushed to the government hospital in Kallakurichi with burn injuries and are said to be in a serious condition.

A police officer told that the five people who lost their lives in the accident at the firecracker shop are suspected to be its owner and his employees.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the people who died in the fire accident.

He also announced Rs 1 lakh to those wounded and undergoing treatment in intensive care ward.

“I was deeply saddened to learn that five people were killed in a fire at a firecracker shop in Sankarapuram, Kallakurichi district. Rs 5 lakh each for the victims; Rs 1 lakh each for those in intensive care would be delivered from the #CMRF fund,” tweeted the Chief Minister.
