555 Bombs Buried For Past 14 Years Disposed By Indian Army

Lucknow: The Counter Explosive Device Unit of Headquarters Central Command, Lucknow has successfully unearthed and disposed 555 dormant bombs that were hidden underground for past 14 years.

The operation began on October 12 and was successfully completed on October 21 near the banks of Feeka river near Hajiro village in Udham Singh Nagar district.

The bombs were destroyed in small segregated batches, so as to mitigate any threat to the local populace, wildlife and properties in the vicinity.

The explosives established as artillery, mortar shells and other projectiles of the Gulf War, were stored in 16 containers and reportedly brought from Iraq in 2004.

A blast had occurred in the same year at SD Steel Factory,Tuglaqabad, Delhi factory resulting in injury and death of workers following which the ammunition was buried under the ground.
