Angul: With no respite in sight from sexual violence against women in the state, a 50-year-old man raped a five-year-old girl in Bantala area in the district yesterday.
The accused identified as Artatrana Behera (50), allegedly lured the victim to a secluded place while she was playing near her home on pretext of giving chocolates and outraged the modesty.
After the incident came to fore the villagers nabbed the accused and thrashed him severely. He was later handed over to police.
Police said the accused had committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.
Both the accused and the victim have been sent for medical examination.
