5.5-magnitude earthquake jolts Leh in Ladakh

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Leh in Ladakh early Thursday morning, with no casualties or major structural damage reported so far.

Leh: An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 hit Leh in Ladakh on Thursday at around 6:05 am, the National Centre for Seismology informed.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of almost 10 kilometers.

Residents of various parts of the region felt the tremors and concerns are being raised on the possibility of some damage.

However, no casualties or major damage have been reported so far.

The earthquake comes after Ladakh registered several seismic events in the region and is a “vulnerable zone in the mountainous area”, according to authorities.

They have also advised locals to remain aware and adhere to any safety guidelines issued in case more tremors rock the state.
