4.4 magnitude earthquake jolts Sikkim’s Soreng
Soreng: An earthquake of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale shook Soreng of Sikkim on Friday morning.
According to reports given by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at Latitude 27.22 North, Longitude 88.33 East, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Taking to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NCS informed, “EQ of M: 4.4, On: 09/08/2024 06:57:08 IST, Lat: 27.22 N, Long: 88.33 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Soreng, Sikkim.”
Meanwhile, no casualties or damages reported yet. Further detailed reports related to the incident are awaited.
Earlier yesterday, an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter Scale struck off Japan’s southern coast. According to United States Geological Survey, earthquake occurred today at 4:42 pm local time near Miyazaki, Japan. Following this, tsunami alert was issued.
