36-year-old woman held for adding drugs to husband’s food for over six years

Kottayam: A 36-year-old woman was arrested from Pala town in Kerala’s Kottayam district for allegedly drugging her husband’s food.

The accused woman has been identified as Asha Suresh (36) of Sathimandiram, in Meenachil near Pala. She was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by her husband Satheesh (38).

According to police, Satheesh married Asha in 2006 and they settled in Pala in 2008. They soon took up the distribution rights of a famous ice-cream brand and shifted to Meenachil taluk in 2012.

According to the complaint, Asha quarrelled with Satheesh over trivial matters. As time passed, Satheesh noticed he was tired and getting fatigued. He consulted a doctor, who suggested low sugar might be the reason. But, even after taking medicine, his health did not improve.

In September 2021, Satheesh avoided eating home food for nearly 20 days and noticed his condition improving. Becoming suspicious of his wife, he asked his friend to find out if Asha was adding any medication to his food.

Satheesh came to know that Asha had been adding some drugs for mental illness to his daily diet since 2015. Satheesh also snapped a photo of the medicines with the help of his wife’s friend and then lodged a complaint with the district police chief, along with evidence such as CCTV visuals.

Later a police team conducted a raid at the house and seized the drugs and arrested the accused.

Police investigation is still underway.
