2 held in Puri for vandalizing EVMs during 3rd Phase polling

Puri: Initiating action against the perpetrators of violence at a polling booth in Satyabadi assembly constituency, police have arrested at least two persons from the religious town over their involvement in EVM vandalization.

The held duo has been identified as Manas Samantaray (32) of Khordha and Akshaya Kumar Biswal (34) of Kanas.

The duo suspected to be aides of BJP’s Satyabadi MLA candidate Om Prakash Mishra, whose supporters created ruckus at booth no. 78 at Birakishorepur village under Kanas block of the district on April 23 during third phase polling and threatened the voters as well as the polling party and damaged the EVMs. Later the MLA candidate himself tried to took out a gun with a motive to fire but dropped it during the attempt and fled the spot.

Presiding Officer Shibram Mohapatra had lodged a police complaint in the case and efforts are underway to trace Mishra who absconding after the incident.
