1 Killed, 10 Injured In Bomb Explosion At Kolkata’s Nagerbazar

Kolkata: A seven year old boy was killed and ten others, including his mother, sustained grievous injuries as a high intensity blast rocked Kajipara at Nagaerbazar area of Kolkata. The blast occurred at around 9:30 am on Tuesday morning outside the Trinamool Congress office used by South Dum Dum Municipality chairperson Panchu Roy.

The deceased child has been identified as Bibhash Ghosh. His mother Basanti Ghosh has been badly injured and currently undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. After the blast, Fire officials, CID and bomb squad rushed to the spot. Several injured persons were admitted at R G Kar Medical Hospital for treatment.

Primary investigation has revealed that the blast was a socket bomb explosion and ammonium nitrate was used in it.

Alleging that the blast was a pre-planned attack by ‘forces’ to eliminate him, Panchu Roy said, “They had planned to kill me and other TMC workers as it would create panic and help them gain a foothold in the area”.

On the other hand, BJP and CPI(Ṁ) have lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee Government and said the incident is unfortunate and reflects the deteriorating law and order conditions in West Bengal.
