Sabyasachi’s mangalsutra ad triggers backlash, legal notice issued

Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is currently facing legal issues regarding his ad campaign selling Mangalsutra. The ad featuring semi-naked models also received a lot of backlash on all social media platforms. Twitter users objected to the ad and called it ‘nudity’.

Ashutosh J Dubey, a legal advisor to BJP-Maharashtra, issued the legal notice to Sabyasachi for featuring models in bras for a Mangalsutra ad. He took to his Twitter to share the news regarding the legal issue and wrote, “I have issued a Legal notice to Sabyasachi Mukherjee Indian fashion designer regarding using “semi-naked models for a Mangalsutra collection advertisement as Mangalsutra is part of Holy Hindu Marriage. He outraged the holy Hindu Marriage (Mangalsutra).”

In another tweet, he wrote, “Portraying “Mangalsutra” with semi-naked women is wrong instead of displaying women models in traditional. “Mangalsutra” can be worn by anyone but obscenely representing “Mangalsutra” is baseless and outrageous.” and in a chain tweet, he added, “Mangalsutra” is also considered a symbol of a bond between Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati. It is believed that the gold in the mangalsutra symbolizes Goddess Parvati and the black dots symbolize Lord Shiva. These powers protect the wife & husband from any evil energies.”

Twitteratis gave mixed responses to the posts. Some appreciated the lawyer for filing the notice, and others felt that it was pointless.
