On World Blood Donor Day, CM urges people to donate blood

CM urges people to donate blood on World Blood Donor DayBhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Wednesday urged the people of Odisha to donate blood and to encourage others to do the same, on the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD).

Taking to Twitter, Patnaik said, “On World Blood Donor Day, I call upon citizens to give blood and give often to save lives and inspire others for the noblest act of humanity.”

Awareness programmes and blood donation camps were organized at different places of the state, on this occasion.

The WBDD is being celebrated around the world since 2004 on different themes.

This year’s theme is ‘Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often’.

The day is observed to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary and life-saving gift of blood.

The WBDD is observed on the occasion of birth anniversary of the Karl Landsteiner, a great scientist who won the Nobel Prize for his great discovery of the ABO blood group system.
