Sambalpur, Apr 08: A newborn boy was rescued from a wooden basket that was floating in a canal near Gopalapali in the district here on Saturday.
According to reports, a woman spotted the baby on the wooden basket that was floating on the water while she was washing clothes in the canal.
On being altered by her, some youths who were taking bathe in the canal dived into the canal and rescued the baby.
They admitted him to Sambalpur Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.
A three-member doctors team under the leadership of one Sabha Chandra is treating the baby at the Sick Newborn Care Units (SNCU) of the hospital.
Meanwhile police have started investigation to find out who and under what circumstances placed the toddler on the basket.
