Naveen moves closer to Mamata, as BJP ups ante for ‘Mission East’

KalingaTV News Desk: As an enthusiastic Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started giving a shape to its ‘Mission East’ plan by focusing more on West Bengal and Odisha, Chief Minister of both States are moving closer, raising eyebrows in the political circle.

BJP President Amit Shah has already made it clear that his party would focus on Odisha and West Bengal more after the Gujarat polls slated to be held later this year. The upcoming National Executive in Bhubaneswar to be attended by PM Modi, Amit Shah and all CMs of BJP-ruled States, is seen as a historic step in party’s ‘Mission East’ agenda.

BJP is upbeat at the significant gains received in the recently-held panchayat polls in the state. The party is leaving no stones unturned to take advantage of the situation and move ahead with its plan to capture power in the State under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the unofficial CM candidate of BJP in Odisha.

While BJP is busy executing its plans and agenda, Naveen Patnaik has suddenly become active, as he has realised the imminent danger. From making select public appearance to meeting party leaders/cadres, Naveen desperately wants to send a message that he means business now.

At the same time, Naveen is also inching closer to Mamata Banerjee, the only leader, who vociferously challenges PM Narendra Modi today. Both CMs met at the Central Hall of the Parliament on Monday during Naveen’s visit to Delhi on the sidelines of the Inter-State Ministerial Standing Committee meeting.

After the meet, Naveen tweeted, saying “Always happy to be at Parliament & see @bjd_Odisha MPs for follow-up of #Odisha’s interests; glad to meet @MamataOfficial in Central Hall”.

And, Mamata Didi reciprocated in a more affectionate manner, saying “Thank you Naveen Ji. Please convey good wishes from @AITCofficial to all. Happy we met. Glad you are looking very well and in good health.”

The growing bonhomie between the duo is seen as a build-up to counter BJP’s aggressive strategy in West Bengal as well as to formulate a plan for the upcoming Presidential Polls. With Trinamool Congress deciding to launch a membership drive across all districts in Odisha, more interesting political developments are on the cards in the days to come.
