Hardcore criminal Badal Rout was injured in an encounter with police in Sinhani forest near Polasara in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip off, Polasara police waylaid the criminal while he was traveling on a bike along with his two aides – Ajit Palei and Nilanchal Nahak. On seeing the police team, Rout fired three rounds of bullets at the police personnel while his associates fled the spot.
The wanted criminal sustained a bullet injury on his left leg when the police retaliated. Later, he was rushed to the Polasara hospital for treatment.
Police seized a mouser and three rounds of live bullets from the possession of Rout, who has more than ten criminal cases in different police stations of the state.
