Delhi: Dr. Nihar K. Patra, an Odia man from Patnagarh in Balangir district of Odisha has lately been honoured with Innovative Librarian (East) in Delhi. The award was presented by ProQuest, the USA on the ProQuest Day event at Aloft Hotel, Aerocity in New Delhi on 21 September 2019. Dr. Patra is presently working at Nalanda University, Rajgir, Bihar as the University Librarian.
In this event, Dr. Patra was invited as a panel member to a discussion on “Dissertations: How disseminating theses through PQDT Global helps to maximize research impact”.
ProQuest is a USA based global information-content and technology company.
Nalanda University is an avant-garde International University with 17 participating countries. It is designated by the Government of India as an “Institute of National Importance’ under the Ministry of External Affairs.
Being a young university librarian, Dr. Patra’s present job calls include development and complete revival of Nalanda University Library from scratch.
Patra had the good fortune to be associated with the libraries of some other elite institutes in India such as NIFTEM (Deemed to be university under De-novo category), Govt. of India, Kundli; JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur; XLRI, Jamshedpur, etc.
Odia librarian Dr. Patra has been awarded Ph.D. on “Electronic Resource Management (ERM)”, an emerging trend in the library and information science. He has done PGDLAN (Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking), Master in Philosophy in Lib. & Inf. Sc., Master in Lib. & Inf. Sc., Bachelor in Lib. & Inf. Sc. and Graduation in Economics.
When it comes to research works he has published a number of works that have been referred to in many national/international journals/book chapters/conferences. His books on “Electronic Resource Management in Libraries” are published by the International publishers such as Elsevier, USA, and IGI Global, USA.
