  1. Former VIMSAR Director Dr Ashwini Pujahari quits Congress

Former VIMSAR Director Dr Ashwini Pujahari on Monday has announced his decision to quit Congress party. He sent his resignation from primary membership to AICC President and District Congress President. Dr Ashwini Pujahari had obtained the party membership for the sake of contesting 2019 elections in the state. He fought from Sambalpur Vidhan Sabha constituency but lost to BJD’s Raseswari Panigrahi.

  1. Ghana Lagi ritual of deities to be held at Puri Srimandir today

Following the complete recovery of the ailing deities from the sickness caused by excessive bath during ‘Snana Purnima’ and ahead of the ‘Nabajoubana Darshan’ tomorrow, the ‘Ghana Lagi’ ritual of the holy trinity was performed at Sri Jagannath temple on Monday.

  1. Ganja worth Rs 50 lakh seized in Bhubaneswar, inter-state smuggler held

Tightening the noose around the necks of cannabis traders in the capital city Bhubaneswar, the Excise Department officials seized around 10 quintal ganja by conducting a raid in Kolathia area of Khandagiri on Monday. Cops also arrested a person identified as Subala Samantaray from the spot during the raid.

  1. Depression to trigger heavy rainfall across Odisha

Depression over the Bay of Bengal is set to cause heavy rainfall across Odisha till July 2. Collectors across all districts have been put on high alert. SRC has sent an alert directive to Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabrangapur, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri and Balasore districts. The district collectors have also been asked to keep an eye on a possible flood situation.

  1. Odisha to host Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship

Major news headlines for today include, Odisha Government achieved a landmark by signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) to host the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship-2019. The Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship will begin on July 17 to conclude on July 22.

  1. Mumbai Rains causes heavy water-logging across city

Mumbai woke up to heavy rains on Monday, 1 July morning, with both roads and railway tracks blocked due to waterlogging. Several short and long-distance trains have been delayed or cancelled. Weather Forecaster Skymet recorded 63mm of rains within a span of 6 hours from 11.30 pm on Sunday from 5.30 am on Monday. However, Sunday saw as much as 361 mm rains in parts of the city.

  1. 33 killed as minibus falls into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir

At least thirty-three people were killed and 22 injured after the bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Srigwari at Keshwan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar on Monday. PTI reported that the bus was on its way from Keshwan to Kishtwar when it veered off the road and fell into the gorge at Sirgwari around 7:30 am.

Powerful explosion rocks Afghan capital Kabul

As per world news headlines, a powerful explosion shook the Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan on Monday morning. As the blast took place in rush hour dozens of people are expected to be injured in the blast. Interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi informed that the Kabul explosion during rush hour in the Puli Mahmood Khan neighbourhood. Afghan’s Defence Ministry is located in the area. The dozens of injured have been taken to hospitals, informed health ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar.
