A 24-year-old Divya Pandey of Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, along with her family, has apologised to the district administration and Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), both of which felicitated her, as well as media for claiming that she had cracked the civil services examination in her maiden attempt.

On Friday, her family and her neighbours conveyed, apologies on behalf of Divya, and said it was an “inadvertent error”. Apparently, it is actually one Divya P of South India and not Divya Pandey who cracked the UPSC examination securing 323rd rank.

Divya’s elder sister Priyadarshni Pandey, said that one of her sister’s friends in UP informed her that she had cracked UPSC securing AIR 323rd rank. Later, they “tried to check result on UPSC website but internet was not working.”

The aspirant’s family claimed that she cracked UPSC with the help of smartphone and internet and didn’t had any professional coaching in her first attempt. This led Divya to the Central Coalfields Ltd Chairman cum Managing Director, PM Prasad and other senior officials felicitating her as her father was a retired crane operator from CCL.

The claims even got widespread to media covering her news.

Following the mistake, Deputy Commissioner of Ramgarh, Madhavi Mishra, who too had felicitated Divya Pandey at her office, termed it a “human error”. The Ramgarh officials reported that they have not taken any action against the girl or her family for the issue.

On the other hand, Divya’s family has claimed that they had no intention of spreading fake news or false claims. They further added that on finding the truth, Divya has left for Delhi.

“We apologise for this blunder,” they said.

Previously, the Ranchi University graduate claimed that she put in almost 18 hours of study on a daily basis, and read a lot of National Council of Education Research (NCERT) books.
