In an effort to provide high-quality education to the under privileged students the University announced this. For the students belonging to families making $200,000 or less, the university commits to cover housing, health insurance and travel costs between campus and home.
The academic year starting 2025-26 in Harvard College will waive off the entire tuition fee of the undergraduate division of the University. This is a welcoming step as this broaden the educational horizon of the less privileged.
The tuition fee for the previous year 2024-25 is set at $56,550. The other expenses including housing, supplies, travel etc cost around $26,000 annually making it a hefty $83,000.
The announcement is covered by the Harvard Financial Aid Initiative, launched in 2004 to make college affordable for people of all economic backgrounds. Following the launch of the noble initiative the students from the families with incomes under $85,000 are exposed to education for free.
