Govt provides Rs 51,000 for marriage; Check the eligible criteria, how to apply and other details

Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana: Marriage is one of the most important things in an individual’s life and people, especially in India, take all possible steps to make their marriage unique and grand success. However, it is not possible for each and every one as they cannot afford for the marriage due to different reasons including poverty.

However, people with poverty need not to be worried for their marriages as the government is providing huge financial assistance under the Under the Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana (Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme).

Now, let’s know details about the Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana:

  • The Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana was launched by the Uttar Pradesh government in October 2017 to provide financial assistance for the marriage of marriageable girls and widows/abandoned/divorced women of needy/destitute families living in poverty.

Objectives of the Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana:

  • The prime objective of the scheme is to stop child marriage, promote education and for the social welfare of poor families.

Benefits of the Mukhyamantri Samuh Vivah Yojana:

  • The District Social Welfare Officer under the supervision/control of the District Magistrate conducts mass marriages of the people of all religions, communities/classes who are eligible for marriage.
  • Under this scheme, the government spends Rs 51,000 per couple, out of which Rs 35,000 is transferred to the bank account of the girl (bride) for happiness in her married life and establishment of household and gift items worth Rs 10,000 are given to the bride and groom and Rs 6,000 are spent to add grandeur to the organization of the ceremony.
  • Widows/abandoned/divorced women from poor families of the state can also avail the benefits.

Eligibility:

  • The bride’s guardians should be native residents of Uttar Pradesh.
  • They must be destitute, poor and needy.
  • The maximum annual income limit of the applicant’s family should be Rs 2,00,000.
  • The age of the bride must be 18 years or more on the date of marriage and the age of the groom must also have completed 21 years on the date of marriage.

  • Birth certificate,
  • Voter identity card,
  • MNREGA job card,
  • Aadhar card,
  • Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class applicants will have to submit caste certificates.
