Good news! Railways give special concession, check whether you are eligible to get

Indian Railways provides concession to the travellers if they fall under some specific category. Usually, senior citizens, students, patients are entitled to concession when they travel by railways.

However, as the country is going through the turbulent times of Covid 19, a restriction on the concession of railway tickets is implemented.

Who is entitled to Railway Concession?

The concession on railway tickets was given to passengers falling under 53 categories including senior citizens, sportspersons, medical professionals, students, etc. However, at present only 15 categories including the students, patients and Divyangjan are given concession.

Out of the 15 categories, 4 categories of Divyangjan get the special concession, 11 categories of patients and students are also given the special concession.

Before the Covid-19 situation (March 2020) senior citizens were given a discount of 50 per cent if they were women. On the other hand, male passengers (senior citizens) were given a discount of 40 per cent. The age limit for male passengers is 60 while the age limit for female passengers is 58.

On the other hand, Divyangjan gets 75 percent discount in 2^nd class, SL, 1^st class, 3AC, and AC chair in Rajdhani/ Shatabdi trains.

Present state of the Railway Concession

On being questioned in the Lok Sabha about the concession of fares in the Indian Railways, the Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnav said that things are not going back to normal soon. The Minister in a written reply told that concession on the ticket will not be resumed (except for some categories) in view of the Covid pandemic and protocols.
