Bhubaneswar: In what can be considered a piece of good and great news for the eligible students that Odisha government on Monday hiked the pre-matriculation scholarships for ST/SC students.
According to the notification Information & Public Relations Department (I&PR), the monthly scholarship for the ST/SC boys has been increased to Rs 950 from Rs 750. Likewise, the amount for the girls has been hiked to Rs 1000 from Rs 800.
The State government’s decision to hike the scholarship money for ST/SC students will benefit more than five lakh beneficiaries. It will incur an additional cost of Rs 490 crore annually towards this scholarship.
The government also has taken the decision to add millet to the menu of the students with an aim to boost their nutrition.
It is pertinent to mention here that the State government had last hiked the scholarship in 2015.
