Good news! Central government employees to soon get 18 months pending DA arrears

Big news for central government employees who have been waiting for their 18 months-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears.

There could be good news for all central government employees who have been waiting for their 18 months-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears. The official consent may come soon as the issue regarding the payment of DA arrears from January 2020 to June 2021 is set for a cabinet discussion.

As per the consolidated reports, the DA arrears of employees at Level-3 is estimated between Rs. 11,880 to Rs. 37,554. On the other hand, Level-13 or Level-14 employees will receive arrears between Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200. The government employees will get the 18-month DA arrears in three instalments

Reportedly, the Union Cabinet, held on September 28, 2022, approved the release of additional instalment of DA and Dearness Relief at 4 percent to Central Government employees and pensioners. Notably, the DA and DR has been due from July 7 this year based on the percentage increase in 12 monthly average of All India Consumer Price Index for the period ending June, 2022.

The additional financial implication on the increased DA that is to be given to the central employees is estimated at Rs.6,591.36 crore per annum. Meanwhile for the financial year 2022-2023 (for a period of 8 months from July, 2022 to February, 2023), the estimated amount is Rs. 4,394.24 crore will be added.

It is to be noted that the DA and DR are revised twice a year, on January 1 and July 1 of each year.

The recent increase in the Dearness allowance will be by 4 percent to 38 percent, and it will benefit approximately 48 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners. As per the 7th pay commission, the government had earlier increased the DA by percent to 34 percent in March.
