EPFO alert! Members can now make minor and major corrections in the names of their father, mother or spouse
The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a new facility for the EPF members. It now allows the members to make minor and major corrections in the names of their father, mother or spouse.
Before making the correction, if needed, the member has to know what are the differences between minor correction and major correction.
What is major correction?
- If the name gets changed phonetically irrespective of number of alphabets getting changed.
- In case 3 or more than 3 alphabets get changed.
- If inserting a name for the first time.
- If expanding the name.
List of documents needed for major change:
- Passport of member
- Ration card/PDA card of the member
- CGHS/ECHS/Medi-claim card with photo of member issued by centre/state govts/PSUs
- Pension card of member
- Birth certificate of member issued by registrar of birth, municipal corporation, other notified local bodies, government bodies like Taluk, Tehsil etc.
- Marriage certificate of member issued by the government
- Photo ID card of member issued by central/state government like Bhamashah, Jan-Aadhaar, MGNREGA, Army canteen card etc.
- Aadhaar card of member bearing father name/ mother name/ spouse name.
- PAN card of member.
- 10th or 12th school certificate/marksheet of the member bearing father/mother name.
- Driving License of member.
In order to make the major change, a member has to furnish at least three of any of the above mentioned documents. Member can submit online request thought Unified Member Portal.
Members can make major corrections in their father’s name, mother’s name, spouse’s name by uploading any 3 documents from the list given.

What is a minor change?
- If less than 3 alphabets get changed and the name not changing phonetically.
- If removing only salutations like Shri, Dr., Mr., Mrs., Miss etc.
List of documents needed for minor change:
- Passport of member
- Ration card/PDA card of the member
- CGHS/ECHS/Medi-claim card with photo of member issued by centre/state govts/PSUs
- Pension card of member
- Birth certificate of member issued by registrar of birth, municipal corporation, other notified local bodies, government bodies like Taluk, Tehsil etc.
