Conditions That Increase Risk Of Heart Attack

With each passing day the number of people dying all of a sudden due to heart attacks has become very common and shocking.

If we consider recent deaths due to heart attacks, the most venerable group is those aged betweeen 35 to 45 due to lifestyle-related stress.

Heart attack is a condition when the blood flow to the heart muscle is suddenly stopped, it can happen due to various reasons.

There are several factors due to which a heart attack can occur:

  • High Blood Pressure – Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the leading reasons for a heart attack. Generally it occurs when the pressure of the blood against the artery walls is too high, restricting the blood flow, forcing the heart to work harder to pump blood. Hence leading to a heart attack.
  • ‘Bad’ Cholesterol – Blood cholesterol are basically of two types, LDL and HDL cholesterol. LDL or the low-density lipoprotein is the “bad” cholesterol that contributes to the build-up of plaque in the heart arteries, which can limit the flow of the blood to other parts of the body.
  • Obesity – Obesity increases the risk of a heart attack by ten times. Obese people need more blood to supply oxygen to vital organs. It causes blood pressure to rise, which is one of the causes of a heart attack.
  • Depression- Depression releases stress hormones and increases inflammatory chemicals that can cause narrowing of arteries. It also has an impact on lifestyle factors that may take a direct toll on physical health. Mental illness puts people at an early risk for heart disease.
  • Smoking- Another risk factor for heart disease among people is smoking. Adults who smoke multiply their chances of having a major heart attack over their non-smoking counterparts. According to various studies it was found that it increase the risk by eight times.
