India’s biggest public sector bank State Bank of India (SBI) has cautioned it’s customers about a new fraud regarding replacing their registered mobile number by scammers. Taking to its X handle, SBI said that the scammers call or SMS the customers threatening them to block or not release the Pension Payment order (PPO).

The premier bank said that the scammers call/SMS the customers offering “faster processing of your PPO” or stating “verification pending for your PPO”. They threaten to block or not to release the pension if not acted immediately. They send a link and ask the customers to share the required information.

The bank awared its customers not to click on any link sent by the fraudster and not to disclose personal information. The banks never ask for PPO verification through phone, SMS, links or ATM visits.

SBI also urged its customers to respond to calls prefixed with 1600 as they are genuine and are used by the banks.
