Koraput: Vigilance sleuths caught a clerk of Nandapur block office in the district red-handed while the latter was accepting Rs 20,000 from a person in pretext to pass a contract bill in the office.

G. Santosh Kumar, a clerk in Development section of the block office, fell into trap of vigilance department last night while taking bribe from the person on behalf of a Semiliguda based engineering firm.

The block office has issued a contract worth 3 lakh 76 thousand rupees to the engineering firm for supplying furniture to some local schools. Kumar demanded bribe to sanction the bill amount of the contract, an official said.

Vigilance sleuths searched the residences of Santosh kumar on the wee hour of today in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

During the search operation, movable and immovable assets were detected and investigation was in progress, the official said.
