Heavy rains lash many parts of Odisha

RainBhubaneswar : Heavy rains lashed many parts of Odisha due to a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The system, which lay centered over northwest Bay of Bengal, has crossed Odisha’s coast Paradip.

At least 25 blocks of 8 districts in the state recorded heavy rainfall in past 24 hrs. The highest rainfall recorded at Kanas block in Puri district with 274 MM.

Rain water inundated low-lying areas and roads in many parts of the state, including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada and Puri districts.

” Heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers will continue to occur at a few places in southern and coastal Odisha and heavy rain at interior districts for the next 24 hours”,  the Met bulletin said on Thursday.

It said strong and gusty surface winds, reaching up to 65 kilometres per hour will blow along the coast.

The MeT department also said, sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
