New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Friday extended the date for linking Aadhaar with Permanent Account Number (PAN) till 31st of March next year.

The Finance Ministry, in a release, said, “It has come to notice that some of the taxpayers have not yet completed the linking of PAN with Aadhaar. Therefore, to facilitate the process of linking, it has been decided to further extend the time for linking of Aadhaar with PAN till 31st March, 2018.”

All taxpayers having Aadhaar Number or Enrolment Number are required to link the same with PAN. As of November, a total of 13.28 crore out of 33 crore PANs have been linked to the 12-digit biometric identifier Aadhaar, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has set up a five-judge Constitution bench to hear the plea of petitioners who have challenged the move of government for linking Aadhaar with various services on the grounds of right to privacy. The hearing will take place next week.
