WATCH: Devotees throng to take holy dip in Baitarani for Maha Baruni Snan today
Devotees take holy dip and offer 'Pinda' to their forefathers as a part of rituals for the Maha Baruni Snan today.
Devotees have thronged to take a holy dip in the Baitarani river on the occasion of Maha Baruni Snan today in Jajpur district. Lakhs of devotees have flocked to the Dasaswamedha Ghat to take a holy dip.
Several devotees have offered Pinda to their ancestors in the banks of Baitarani. The Maha Baruni Snan has its mention in the pages of Puranas. This great bath has given an identity to the Jajpur district and Odisha alike.
Devotees from other states all over India arrive for the great bath. This year the Baruni Joga falls from March 26, 11.48 pm to 8.12 pm on March 27. Ahead of the huge crowd of devotees, the Jajpur district Administration, police and the Municipality have heightened the security.
On the other hand, barricades for the safety of the bhaktas have been planted. Provisions for the cleansing of the pond for the holy dip of thousands of devotees was undertaken.
Collector P.Anwesha Reddy had earlier called for a preparatory meeting for the holy bath in the presence of several authorities of different departments.
The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to avoid any untoward situation on the holy occasion.
As per popular beliefs, taking a dip on the occasion will free people of their sins, miseries and diseases. Apart from Jajpur district, the snan holds significance in Ganjam district also.
In Ganjam district, an influx of devotees is witnessed taking the holy dip in the Rushikulya river. Similar crowd was witnessed at Kanjiama and Bahuda near Barahi in Ganjam district.
