Tips To Stay Disease Free This Monsoon Season

Bhubaneswar: Monsoon is indeed a great time of the year. However, it is also a season when one needs to be extra cautious regarding infections and bacteria. Rainy days mark the outbreak of many communicable diseases and therefore we need to take extra care to ensure that we enjoy the monsoon and not fall prey to infectious diseases.

In the monsoon season, one needs to be careful regarding everything- from food to water. Contagious diseases like malaria, flu, cold, diarrhoea, food and water infections and typhoid are rampant. But there is no need to worry as here are some tips following which you can stay safe and healthy this rainy season.

  1. Wash Fruits/Vegetables before eating:

In the rainy season, it is advisable to wash fruits and vegetables before eating. After washing, they should be placed in a dry place. One further needs to be extra careful while washing leafy vegetables like spinach. By doing so, you can stay away from diseases like food poisoning and diarrhoea.

  1. Avoid Street Food:

Street food must be strictly avoided during the rainy season. The food in the streets is sold in the open and is prone to bacteria, which can lead to infections and diseases. Very often, the food is cooked in unhygienic conditions using contaminated water which may cause typhoid, diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases.

  1. Take a Shower if you are drenched:

On many occasions, you might get drenched in the rains. However, once you come back home, the first you should do is head straight to the bathroom and get a shower. Rain water carries a lot of bacteria and taking a shower washes them away.

  1. Use a Sanitizer:

One should always carry a sanitizer in the rainy season. There might be occasions where you cannot use soap and water and in such situations, sanitizer comes as a great help. The anti-bacterial contents of sanitizer eliminate harmful germs and keeps one disease free in the rainy season.

  1. Stay safe from Mosquitos:

Mosquitos are the main cause of dengue outbreak during the rains. To stay safe from this deadly disease, one should using mosquito nets and repellent gels during the rainy days.

  1. Drink more water:

Drinking more water in the rainy season may help you keep dehydration at bay. However, one must always drink filtered, purified or boiled water to stay safe from water-borne diseases.

  1. Drink Hot Beverages:

Drinking hot beverages like tea, coffee, soup and milk will help your body fight infections caused by abrupt temperature changes during the rainy season. Besides, they will also provide your body with the much-needed warmth in the rainy weather.

  1. Avoid Using Air Conditioner:

Strictly avoid using ACs during rains as you may catch cold, cough and viral fever.

  1. Increase Vitamin Intake:

Try to boost your Vitamin C intake during the rains by virtue of additional supplements or natural sources. This will boost your energy level and immunity system which will greatly help in protecting you from diseases and infections.
