Rising theft and robbery in Bhadrak district sparks public fear and discontent, watch
Thefts from the houses of the rich and middle class as well as from temples have become a daily occurrence
Bhadrak: Incidents of theft, robbery, burglary etc. are reportedly increasing in various parts of Bhadrak district in Odisha. Accordingly, people are in a state of fear. It has been observed that incidents of theft and robbery are happening almost every day.
Especially, the criminals are becoming active after sunset. The residents of Bhadrak have complained that the administration has failed to stop this. Accordingly, discontent is increasing among the people day by day. Neither the looters are being caught nor are the stolen goods being recovered. People have gradually lost faith in the police.
Bhadrak is a sensitive district in the entire coastal Odisha. But incidents of theft, robbery and snatching are now increasing in this district.
In the last one year, about 125 thefts, 35 robberies and 42 snatchings have been reported from different police stations of the district. Thieves are now targeting temples, jewellery shops and big mobile shops.
A few months ago, miscreants looted mobile phones worth about 1 crore rupees in Bhandaripokhari Bazaar. The culprits broke into a house in Manjuri Road area and killed and assaulted a woman and fled.
Around 75 kg of gold ornaments were stolen from the house of two women in the Aredi Chhack area. A private bank employee was robbed of Rs 7 lakh at gunpoint in Tihidi Bazaar.
An attempt was made to rob a businessman in Charampa area by shooting him. Gold worth lakhs of rupees was looted from a gold shop in Ranital Bazaar, Bypass, Manjuri Road.
Similarly, a series of robberies took place at the houses of three people in Charampa Canal Road. A businessman’s house was looted near the Baudpur railway line, and a large-scale robbery took place in Solampur village. But the police have not been able to arrest anyone in these incidents so far.
In such a situation, thefts from the houses of the rich and middle class as well as from temples have become a daily occurrence. Valuables have been stolen from famous temples such as the Madanmohan Temple in Bhadrak city, the famous Hanuman Temple in Charampa, the Satabhauni Temple, the Varunai Temple of Asurali, the temples in Chudakudi, Dhamnagar, and Kurigaon. However, police have not arrested anyone in these thefts.
Similarly, in Bhadrak city, in the evening, a miscreant snatched a gold chain from a female police officer and fled. On the Aredi Chhack road, a miscreant snatched a gold necklace from a young woman. A miscreant snatched a gold necklace from a woman in the Naripur area.
In the Char Ghari area, a doctor was stabbed and robbed from his house. Incidents like breaking into a woman’s house in Uttara Bahini has been reported when she was not at home.
The residents of this district have said that the police are only investigating with sniffer dogs and scientific teams. The locals are unhappy about this. Night patrolling is not being tightened and thefts are not being stopped. As a result, the number of thefts is increasing.
There is no CCTV in many important places in Bhadrak. Police patrolling is not done properly. The police do not show sincerity in stopping the thefts. The people of Bhadrak have repeatedly complained to the then SP but no action is being taken.
After Manoj Rout joined as the new SP, the residents have kept hope that the frequent loot cases will lessen in Bhadrak. However, still theft cases are going on.
Of course, the new SP is taking various steps to prevent theft. Besides, night patrolling has been tightened, various places are being cordoned off and checked. The police have arrested two criminals of a temple theft incident and seized some stolen goods.
Similarly, the police are taking strict action against drug mafias, illegal coal dealers and illegal cattle dealers. Bhadrak SP has informed that special steps have been taken to catch the looters.
Police are taking special steps to make Bhadrak crime-free. For this, a helpline number has been issued. And an independent police team has been kept on alert, the SP informed.
