Indian heart donor gives new lease of life to 19 yr old Pakistani girl

New Delhi: Ayesha Rashan is a 19-year-old Pakistani girl who recently received a heart from an Indian patient via a heart transplantation surgery in Chennai. The donor was a 69 year old brain dead patient from Delhi.

Ayesha was a heart patient. However, after getting the heart, now the Pakistani girl can ‘breathe easy’.

As per reports, 19 year old Ayesha Rashan from Karachi, Pakistan was initially brought to the MGM Healthcare in Chennai in the year 2019 when she had faced a severe heart dysfunction which led to heart failure. She was advised for a heart transplant. Accordingly, she was waitlisted on the state organ registry.

However, from then she had been kept in a life support system and with this temporary arrangement she flied back to her home in Pakistan.

Meanwhile in 2023 her right side heart also failed, says a report by TOI. Now, as the patient’s family contacted, the doctors said that a heart transplant was the only option.

Fortunately, in January this year, she was told during a telephonic call that she can get a heart of a 69 year old brain dead patient from India.

Ayesha was lucky to get this heart, because at that point of time there was no claim from any Indian patient for such a heart transplant.

Accordingly, this foreigner teen was given a heart. The heart transplant surgery was successful. The high cost of the medical expense was borne by a NGO from Chennai named Aishwarya Trust, a few former patients and doctors. The cost amounted approximately Rs 35 lakh. By April 17 Ayesha was normal and she was discharged from the hospital.

Talking to media, the girl said that she wants to become a fashion designer after completing her schooling from Karachi.
