Odisha Disaster Management Model Praised as NDMA Delegation Meets Chief Secretary

A high-level delegation from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) met with Odisha’s Chief Secretary Anu Garg at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday. This came right after the Second BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group wrapped up in Puri. The NDMA group included Dr. Krishna S. Vatsa, Rita Missal, and Odisha’s own Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil.

While meeting with the Chief Secretary, Dr. Vatsa and Ms. Missal gave their detailed rundown of what came out of the BRICS DRR Working Group session — the main outcomes, important discussions, and big policy moves. They also touched on other collaborative work that fit under the wider BRICS Summit umbrella.

Chief Secretary Garg praised how smoothly the international gathering in Puri went. She made it clear that Odisha is serious about staying ahead in disaster resilience. The state keeps sharpening its preparedness, runs solid emergency response systems, and pulls in global best practices to strengthen its disaster management approach.

At the end of the meeting, Garg pointed out Odisha’s achievements in disaster management, noting how the state leads in cyclone readiness, community-driven disaster responses, and early warning systems. Because of these efforts, Odisha has earned national and international recognition as a benchmark model for effective and preventive disaster management.
