Odisha CM Reviews School Project, Directs Land Allocation for 2,200 Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed all district collectors to complete the identification and allocation of land for 2,200 Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools by March 2027, setting a clear deadline as the state accelerates one of its flagship education initiatives aimed at strengthening foundational learning across rural Odisha.  

The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, where the Chief Minister assessed the progress of the programme. Stressing that timely land availability is essential to keeping construction on schedule, Majhi instructed collectors to personally oversee the exercise, review progress every week and submit regular reports to the School and Mass Education Department. He also announced that he would conduct monthly reviews of the project himself to ensure implementation remains on track.  

The state government has earmarked more than ₹2,200 crore for the programme in the current financial year. The project is designed to establish world-class primary schools at the Gram Panchayat level in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009.  

Officials informed the review meeting that foundation stones have already been laid for 322 schools and construction has commenced at those locations. The Chief Minister asked the administration to speed up the identification of sites for the remaining schools and advised district authorities to involve local MLAs wherever necessary to resolve land-related issues and facilitate faster execution.  

Majhi said the active involvement of district collectors would be crucial to achieving the government’s target within the stipulated timeline. According to him, coordinated efforts at the district level will determine the success of the ambitious education programme, which seeks to provide quality primary education infrastructure throughout the state.  

The broader vision of the initiative is to establish one Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary School in every Gram Panchayat across Odisha. The current phase targets the construction of 2,200 schools by March 2027, forming part of the state’s larger plan to expand modern primary education infrastructure across thousands of Gram Panchayats.  

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond participated in the review meeting virtually. Senior government officials were also present, while all district collectors joined the discussions through video conferencing to review the implementation roadmap and district-level preparedness.
